There’s been a lot of excellent hip-hop this year. With new releases from Kanye West, Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, and newcomers like Lil Uzi Vert and Lil Yachty, the Hashtag Gif staff has been overwhelmed with the amount of good music coming from the rap world. We were going to have a really difficult time deciding our year-end list.
Luckily, that burden is no longer on us, as this newcomer has just taken the crown with her rendition of “Norf Norf” by Vince Staples.
Even though she is covering this song from over a year ago, she relays it with such conviction that we’ve played it at least twelve times in the office today. She nearly bursts into tears throughout, and even adds some extra lines at the end of the first verse.
They say hip-hop is a youth genre but this woman (without a proper rap name!) is clearly challenging that notion.
We applaud her delivery and her conviction, and hope to hear here cover other contemporary hip-hop songs, such as Pusha T’s “Drug Dealers Anonymous”, Gucci Mane’s “Bling Blaww Burr” and Young Thug’s “Harambe”.
