Missed last night’s debate? It was more of the same – Drumpf blowing hot air of his orange face while Hillary coolly brushed off his insults and swatted him like the fly he is.
You could watch the highlights from the debate, or you could simply watch Parks and Recreation.
That’s right. Everyone’s favorite sitcom brilliantly predicted last night’s debate. Back in its fourth season, the main plotline of Parks and Rec involved Leslie Knope running for Pawnee City Council against Bobby Newport. Knope was articulate, passionate and qualified, while Newport was – shall we say – special. In one episode, the two of them met for a one-on-one televised debate.
Sound familiar?
Throughout the debate, Drumpf’s empty catchphrases echoed Newport. Quick – who said “I’m against crime, and I’m not afraid to admit it”? The only difference was that Newport was actually goofy enough to be likeable, while Trump’s novelty burned out a long time ago. But in both cases it was clear who was the more qualified candidate.
In Parks and Rec, Leslie Knope barely won the position over Bobby Newport. Let’s hope life imitates art this November.
